CDC report: Cryptosporidium outbreaks on the rise
Cryptosporidium outbreaks have increased in pools and lakes in the United States, according to a new Centers for Disease Control report released Thursday. The report found 77 percent of the outbreaks recorded occurred in pools, and of these 52 percent were attributed to Cryptosporidium parvum.
Study: Caregivers unaware of Cryptosporidium risk in pools
Many caregivers are unaware of the risks of Cryptosporidium, a chlorine-resistant parasite found in pools. Considered a Recreational Water Illness (RWI), Cryptosporidium has increased 300 percent in the last 10 years, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Even with this increase in prevalence, a new study by Nielsen found caregivers lack knowledge about RWIs and how to handle them.

Cryptosporidium outbreak settlement of $5 million approved
The New York State Court of Claims has granted preliminary approval of a proposed $5 million settlement of a class action lawsuit filed over a Cryptosporidium outbreak in a state water park. Until now, no technology has presented the ideal solution. Ozone and UV systems are expensive and still require high levels of chlorine for residual kill, while salt systems cause corrosion and don’t kill crypto.
Clear Comfort awarded Advanced Industries Accelerator Programs Grant
Clear Comfort, a Boulder-based startup providing a patented advanced oxidation technology to the pool industry, today announced it was awarded the Advanced Industries (AI) Accelerator Programs Grant by the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT). The Early Stage Capital and Retention Grant, in the amount of $250,000, will enable Clear Comfort to bring its product to more markets across the nation more quickly.
