With growing concerns for the world’s limited resources, we can do our part by making sure our cleaning supplies, appliances and even pool products are healthy for us, our families and the environment.

Similarly to leading sustainable cleaning brands, like Method, Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day and Seventh Generation, the pool industry has leading technologies and products that offer eco-friendly solutions without sacrificing quality.

Pool Technology: Doing More with Less Chemicals

For decades, the common perception of pool sanitation was that adding large amounts of toxic chemicals, was necessary to keep pool water clean. However, just as technological advancements have improved the way we drive, communicate and work, it has also improved the way we treat pool water.

Today, pool treatment technologies can effectively sanitize and enhance the quality of pool water without relying on chlorine, bromine or salt, a chlorine generator. This means that pool treatment can be “green” as well as clean, without sacrificing one for the other.

Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are one of the best sustainable pool treatment options. They clean water with hydroxyl radicals that rapidly oxidize and destroy waterborne contaminants, reducing the amount of chemicals required to make pool water safe.

Clear Comfort’s patented hydroxyl-based AOP uses less energy to operate relative than other AOP systems and only require a yearly cartridge replacement. In addition, the company refurbishes used cartridges and reuses them in order to create as little waste as possible.

Do Your Research

With many pool treatment systems claiming sustainability, it is important that we take the time to research and identify which companies are taking steps to minimize their ecological impact, and offering products that benefit both the individual and the planet.

When choosing a pool treatment solution, make sure it is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and has independent studies that support the technology.

By supporting companies focused on sustainable solutions, each of us can do our part in leaving behind a healthy and thriving planet for future generations to enjoy.
